It cannot be denied that the vocals haven´t been to good in the early 2000s. That is mostly becuased they kept playing in lower tunings, which made James´ voice clearly lose pitch and power.
Rick Rubin made them play standard tuning again, and you should go seem them today.
They will blow your head off. Everyone of them is playing at his best today. Even Lars, who is said to be a bit loose here and there is too amazing to describe today.
Metallica is among the best live bands in the world.
