Actually the A-10's will not be phased out anytime soon. In fact, they are being upgraded. They will be in service I believe, until 2028. The JSF was intended to take the role of primary attack plane but do to the A-10's unparalelled(sp) ability to loiter, take fire, and of course, completely desimate, the airforce felt it prudent to keep them around. The A-10 is old but it will be around to get older.

The A-10 Thunderbolt was my favorite plane when I was 4.
I live 50 miles from an Air Force base, so I sometimes see these flying in 2s XD.

I'm a BIG fan of the "hog" in real life and I fly with DFA's 1st Sqn. "Craterbaiters", the A-10a in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs on-line. [ED B.S.'s A-10c is gonna be totally awsome!!!!!]
IMHO, this is the best vid on "YouTube" to display "some" of the real aircraft's abilities. Who ever decided to add AC/DC's jammin'"Thunderstruck" as the sound track, was right on with it.

I dont think its to big considering they have fitted the AC-130 with the Mk44 Bushmasters now. That gun is friggin huge, dare say as big as the hogs in overall dimensions. Shoots the same round except that they are programmable to detonate at a specific range or point in time. 250 rds a minute, not near as many as the hog but with the detonation capabilities makes it very deadly.
